Results from 5th Round of Lauderhill Maq T20 Intl. Night Cricket
Sri Lanka and Jamaica scored victories
Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 101 runs
Hundred of cricket fans turned out on a beautiful South Florida night to watch Sri Lanka and Jamaica post victories last Saturday night in the 5th round of the Lauderhill Maq T20 International Night Cricket Tournament.
In the first match at the Lauderhill Sports Park, Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 101 in the first Group C match of the tournament. Games in Group C were postponed on February 11, 2012 due to inclement weather conditions. Sri Lanka won the toss and ended on 204 for 9 in the allotted 20 overs. Batting for Sri Lanka, Naveed Ahamed slammed 63 from 23 balls with (2x4) and (8x6). Opening the batting, Ahamed came out firing on all cylinders entertaining the large crowd with some powerful hitting and sharing a second wicket partnership of 46 with Durgapersad Chouby who scored 37 from 17 balls including (4x4) and (1x6). Other useful contributions came from Sayed Hussain 26 with 4 fours and 1 six, Hiren Patel 26 including 4 fours and Priyantha Liyanage 25 with 2 fours and 1 six. Bowling for Pakistan, Ali Kazmi took 1 for 18, Jumaid Khan 1 for 21, Shawn Qureshi 1 for 29, Farhar Ullah 1 for 28, Mudassar Waqar 1 for 34 and Umar Zikar 1 for 37.
In reply, Pakistan was dismissed for 103 with Mudassar Waqar scoring 35 from 23 balls including 2 fours and 3 sixes. Waseem Shahzada contributed 19, whilst Umar Zihar scored 17, Mohammad Farhan 12 and Mohammad Qureshi 10. arbados felt short by 25 runs finishing at 208 for 4 at the end of the allotted 20 overs. Bowling for Sri Lanka, former USA national player and current bowling coach, Nasir Javid bagged 4 for 15 from 3.2 overs. Abid Ali took 1 for 16, Naveed Ahamed 1 for 18 and Srinvas Nandina 1 for 23.
Jamaica defeated Combined Islands by 90 runs
In the second night match, Jamaica scored 217 for 7 and defeated Combined Islands by 90 runs to post its first victory in the 5th round of the 11th Annual Lauderhill Maq T20 Intl. Night Cricket Tournament. Jamaica won the toss and elected to bat in front of the large and boisterous crowd who was treated to some power hitting from current USA national player Steven Taylor. Taylor a member of the USA team schedule to depart Tuesday for the ICC World Twenty20 qualifier in the UAE was in superb form and entertained the large crowd in an innings that encompassed both defense and offense. Taylor dominated the Combined Islands bowling attack slamming 62 from 32 balls including 4 fours and 2 sixes and shared 64 runs third wicket partnership with current USA national coach Mark Johnson. Johnson hit a whirlwind 43 including 4 fours and 2 sixes. Other useful scores came from Glen Anglin 30 with 1 four and 2 sixes, whilst O’Bryan Jones hit 28 not out with 4 fours and 1 six and Shane Ford 20. Bowling for Combined, Bert Davis grabbed 3 for 31, Aston Dennis 1 for 26, Antoine Charlery 1 for 27, Michael Victor 1 for 34 and Robbie Paltoo 1 for 39.
In reply, Combined was dismissed for 125 in 15.1 overs. Batting for Combined, Rene Toussaint slammed 38 including 7 fours and 1 six, whilst Aston Dennis scored 16, Bert Davis 15, Antoine Charlery 12 and Joey Pierre 10. Bowling for Jamaica, Neville Dawkins captured 4 for 26 from 3.1 overs and he was well assisted by Herlando Johnson 3 for 26 and Keyonie Gayle 3 for 36.
